Well, today was the day, the votes have been counted from the weekend and amongst much excitement, the lucky winner  was announced!
Viewers Choice of the 2014 Lyn Ballinger Challenge is.............. Pat Reid,
Congratulations Pat!

Pat was presented with her certificate and $50 voucher to spend at  Kimz Sewing and Patchwork Center.
Thank you Kim for your generosity.
Pat's take on 'Circles of Communication'

Here is the pic, the original pic, that I couldn't show you last week, of the Judged winning pieces.
Pat with her winning entry (3rd Place) Judge Bev holding Yola's 2nd Place winner, and Sue with her 1st place Judged winning entry.

A closer view of Yola's 'Circle of Communication'    and Sue's 'Circle of Communication'
1st Prize Judged was a $50 voucher to Maleny Magic Patchwork.  Sue has lost no time at all in zipping up the ranges to visit Maleny Magic, so many fabrics to choose from, but finally she chose a Bali Pop of greens and purples, not unlike what she is wearing......
Both Yola and Pat won $25 Vouchers to Patchwork Angel.   We are yet to see what they splurge on.
Thank you Bev for judging our show and for your generous donations, thank you also to Kim and Penny for their generous donations.

Lorraine was busily searching for inspiration on using the lovely box of fabrics she won as the lucky door prize, donated by Bev

Sheila has completed another of the Charity Quilts that will be presented to Najidah next Wednesday (25th June).  There is quite a nice selection of designs to be presented, just in time for the winter cool weather.

Winter months always see us with visitors from 'down south', they come to visit for the warmth and sunshine, while we are all rugged up in the 23 degree winter weather, they are lolling around in shorts and tees, fanning themselves.....yeah...true!
Anyway, two lovely ladies visited with us this week, Dawn who is visiting her friend  Julie and Marjorie who took the opportunity to house sit.
Marjorie has a lovely wall hanging of the view from her Gippsland home, and has decided to turn that wall hanging into a triptych of the view, she is well along on the extra two hangings and bought them along yesterday to share and to work on.
Marjorie (center) had help displaying the three pieces of work, Marguerite on the left, well you can barely see one set of digits....how did she do that? really..how?? and Jackie to the right.
What a glorious view to have from your window.

It's the time of year for winning, what with all the quilt shows coming up and the rural agricultural shows.
Our local show was held last week and although none of our group put in a quilt we did have winners in other areas.
Lainey, her Darling and her honey were winners, winning Reserve Champion (2nd Place) for the liquid honey entry and 1st Place for the Candied Honey entry.
Congratulations on two great wins!

Now for a little floral eye candy....
Marie's Darling Les, remember the blooms for our luncheon last week? was also a big winner in the 'flower' section.
Of 18 entries, there were 15 wins!!
Congratulations Les
The two most thrilling wins were for 'Champion Rose' with his rose 'Dianna Princess of Wales'
and 'Champion Cut Flower' with one of his magnificent Hibiscus blooms 'New Idea Hibiscus'

Les, being the president of the Sunshine Coast Hibiscus Society was also one of the participants in the amazing display of Hibiscus blooms put on at the show by the society.
These talented folks had put on a display at Woombye that was viewed by Jenny McKay, one of our local councilors and also the President of the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show.

One look at the fab display and Jenny asked the Hibiscus gals and guys to create a display for 'the show'.  Well, that sounds easy enough, but take into account that Hibiscus, being the fussy little sleepers that they are, close up each night, which meant that the display had to be assembled each morning for the 3 days of the show.
A dedicated extra from some lovely and dedicated folks.
Now a little birdie has made mention that Les has a big 0 birthday around about now, if its been, hope you had a blast Les, if it is still to come.  A very happy Birthday from all the gals at Patchwork and thanks again for the lovely flowers you brighten our shows and luncheons with.

Our group has been asked to submit a name for the 2015 Winter School, and we have chosen Neroli Henderson, a very talented fabric and quilting artist from Melbourne.
Neroli has a piece in the currently touring 'Living Colour' International Juried exhibition that we will see at the Brisbane quilt show.  The show will be held early this year, on October 8th to 12th, because of the G20.
Neroli has quite a few sites that you can visit to see not only her work, but the work of other artists that inspire her.
There are two links to 'Eiloren', one is Neroli's blog and the other link is to her 'almost completed but slightly under construction' website also named 'Eiloren',  where there is a very interesting story of Neroli's journey to becoming a quilter and fabric artist along with a list of her interviews and judged work.
Neroli's Facebook page currently has a great video tutorial on how to use a heat gun on quilted synthetic fabrics.
Lots of tutorials are to be found on all sites.
Enjoy!!
