Thursday Fundraiser - more pics....

Couldn't load as many pics as I would have liked at the time from the Thursday night girls Breast Cancer Fundraiser ( see previous post) so here are a few more pics, and I have to tell you, some of these beauties are ....dare I whisper it...ufo's........yes, really, all of this lusciousness can be unearthed in cupboards and boxes under beds all around the Sunshine Coast..........

Below we have a needlturn applique, so much work has been put into this. On the right there is a wonderfully vibrant Q.S.T or hourglass quilt, with someone's knitting project. Look at the tinsy little sewing machine bottom right, its almost hidden behind the buttons tin.
Jenny, who drew most of the prize winning tickets, along with Leticia and Judy, haming it up in the two bottom pics. Who would have thought that so much laughter and fun could be had from drawing a little bit of numbered paper from an old plastic bucket.

An Evening of High Tea, Fun, and Goodies Galore

The Thursday evening group held a Breast Cancer research fundraiser tonight, it was a smash hit. The room was cleverly decorated with so many beautiful things, from feather Boa's to huge jars of buttons to tiny nick knacks, old machines and sewing equipment, lace bobbins, books etc. etc. and so many U.F.O.'s, or maybe they are still WIP's
The Girls were excited to announce at the end of the evening they raised $360.00, Well Done.
An addition: - Two ladies - you know who you are - are being teased dreadfully, they made an addition error, the amount raised was actually $460, and added to that Debbie met with a friend in the street who very kindly made a donation, All Up - The girls raised............$500.00!
There are so many pics of so many people having fun (Jenny - dashing across the room to 'rescue' a prize for one) and so many interesting works, but time is a problem at the moment. BUT I do promise to load more as soon as I can, in the meantime, enjoy these pics.

This flimsy is of the most beautiful fabrics, the hand and drape is magical. Hope Jane gets inspired one day to finish it. Looks like someone has a collection of unfinished dollies as well.

Betty modelling her mask, there was a stray feather there, and it was ticklish, worse than bubbles even.
Di was another winner, in fact the two last tickets to be drawn were announced together, and Di being the savvy quilter that she is, and recognizing the size of a folded fattie, quickly zoomed in under the guard of the other winner to score these fatties and needlebook.
Di bought her neighbour along, who won this wonderful package of skin care,
Sue choose a beautifully wrapped box, and inside the wrapping a note saying "there are 47 more of these for you", wow, can you imagine the excitement!. She opened the box to find...........1 individually wrapped loo roll - of course we all hope its more than 2 ply but that's a story for another day.
Janet choose the 'Romantic Dinner for Two' package, it came complete with entree (cheese sticks) main course (jar of spaghetti sauce and not to forget, the spaghetti) dessert (a flake bar) ambiance (colour coded candle - coded to the bag that is) and the romance? why a lovely bottle of red of course.

June and Letitia, drawing prizes from the upmarket ticket box, these girls could make chopping an onion fun.
Debbie was delighted to win, she was lucky enough to get a voucher for a meal out............
...........at Almost French. Debbie found she had lotsa, lotsa friends. But the most unselfish friend was Jenny, what a good friend to say she would just force herself to use the voucher for Debbie.
The remainder of the platters of very french pastries are on the table as Debbie walks by. They were divine.
Another winner, Lis and Mandy came along to join in the fun.
June won the lucky door prize. Letitia was thinking of a few good uses for it.

Quillo Workshop

Well, I don't know, was it something in the air?, the change of season? excitement at gearing up for our Biennale Quilt Show?........whatever the reason, there was a lot of laughter at the cottage today.
Wendy found a need to reverse stitch after not quite mastering the very difficult art of laying fabric right sides together.

We had the talented duo of Sue and Janet tutoring a quillo workshop, Sue gave us this rather useful tip, how to closely snip off the corners without chopping through the stitching line

Place your thumb nail on the stitching line and snip off the offending corners, short of cutting off your thumb your stitching is safe.
Elaine took a break from the workshop to show off her striking stack and slash quilt, made for one of the men in her family.
Julie brought her Hardanger along to admire and be admired. Some days it's all about the company not the stitching.

Some of the Needlework girls did a workshop on knitting little beaded bags, as you see Gwen took a real liking to the art, here she is on her 3rd, Julie's holding one up for the camera and one on the table

Fay had the ultimate in UFO's for the day. Her baby blanket started 15years ago!
She bought it along to get an update on her crochet skills from Dorothy, who is also a member (Leader) of the Spinners and Weavers group.

Marion, up on a visit to her sis Sue, felt she needed just one more thing to stuff into her cases to fly home tomorrow, what better that a quillo?

Early in the lesson, quillo pocket made, but oh dear........forgot to change the bobbin cotton, it wasn't a real good match but gee, on the inside who will see???

Afternoon Tea was yum as usual, the apricot cake was a real hit and Maree very kindly gave us the recipe.

Apricot Loaf:

Place in a bowl
1 cup All-bran
1 cup chopped apricots
1 cup brown sugar
1tablespoon honey
1 cup milk
Allow to stand and soak overnight or for a few hours.

Next morning add
1 cup Self Raising Flour,
Place in Loaf Tin and bake in moderate over (180 deg) until lightly browned and cake springs back when lightly pressed on top.

Chippies:
60grms butter
50grm packet potato chips lightly crushed
1/2 cup plain flour
90 grams sharp cheddar cheese
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
a good pinch cayenne pepper

Melt butter, cool slightly. Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
Roll heaped teaspoons full of mixture into balls and placve on a lightly greased tray and flatten with a fork. Bake in a moderate oven 180 - 190 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes.

Addition: I did try that fruit cake, boy what a hit!, visitors enjoyed it so much we got an invite to the pub for lunch. Thank you again Maree.

Need a little comfort food on this rainy dull day???

Sheila sent me this easy recipe for the world's most dangerous cake.

5 minute Chocolate Mug Cake
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional) - but recommended ;)
a small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips and vanilla extract, and mix again
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 mins at 1000 watts (high). The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Now off you go and console yourself about this rotten weather...........and then have a nap......and then do some more quilting, because what else can a body do on a day like this.

Thursday Evening Group

Our patchwork group has two meetings per week, the original meeting on Wednesday afternoons and the newer meeting time of Thursday evening, (two bites of the patchwork cherry!) which enables those who cannot make a weekday afternoon meeting the opportunity to join in.
Today Debbie and Lorraine loaned two packages of photos, many, many photos, just a few here to show you some of the wonderful work done throughout the year and the fun that the Thursday girls had at their Christmas Party.
