Grandies Day at Patchwork

Two things combined to bring a number of Grandies to visit the Cottage today, sign in day, where everyone brings along their sale goodies for the Easter Fair, and school holidays.

One young lassie, bought along her flimsey for show and tell.

All her own work, done with guidance from Granny. 
Teddy has been hand appliqued, just look at the neat little stitches.

The little quilter even has her quilting design all worked out, first she will sandwich it and then she will hand quilt a heart around teddy.

Jan, our President, popped in to see how we were trucking along, seeing as the Cottage is in a bit of disarray, well, setting up for a Fair will do that, not to mention two young workmen creating the new office space! anyhoo, Jan just had to inspect the seams, boy was she impressed!

Being the talented lassie that she is, this little patchworker has her very own IPad, with her very own password no less, but don't you just love the screen saver? Talk about BLING!

The little Patchworker's brother was also at the Cottage, sporting a rather unique (to moi-never seen before) friendship band, made with 'Loom Bands'. 

He was only too willing to chat and fill us in on all the details, this one only took him about 25 mins to create.  He even went into the pros and cons of the various clip styles that can be had to fasten the bands.
Well, couldn't wait to share this wonderful new discovery with my little Grandie, scooted home, fired up the net, got the pics and tutorials up and called him in.....the result?...blase`! "Yeah Grandma, you just make them with those tiny little elastic bands"....oh, the disappointment!

Janice snaffled two Camelias from her Dad's garden to bring in to share with Marie, just couldn't resist a pic.

Courtney is continuing with her long-stitch of dolphins, well on the way to a stunning wall hanging.

Jenny, who accompanies Courtney to the Cottage has been knitting this beauty, he is a black Labrador looking back over his shoulder.

 Jenny says he may not look exactly like the pattern pic but she loves him.  All that is missing is his eyes, soon to be added.

Sue had her dogs banner all finished and ready for the Easter Fair, of course, she then decided to be coy, seems to be a bit of that going around!

Can't wait for tomorrow! Set Up Day! Yay!!, really starting to get excited about the Easter Fair, will pop up to the Cottage tomorrow for some sneak peek pics for you all. 

If you are in our neck of the woods on Saturday, pop in to say Hi and satisfy the creative inner you, there are many, many groups that make up our Cottage and all will have a myriad of goodies for Sale and browsing.

The Fair will start at 8a.m and run until 2.30p.m.

The Buderim Lions Club, Buderim Library and of course, our groups in the Buderim Craft Cottage all band together to put on this fantastic Easter Fair.
We are easy to find, the Memorial Hall  (Lions Club with the Library upstairs) is on the corner of Glouster Road and Church street intersected by Main Street, the Cottage is next door at 5 Main Street Buderim, opposite the State Primary School.
There is a small grassed area between the Memorial Hall and our Cottage, and there will be stacks of stalls all set up there as well.

Food and Drinks:  There are lots of food options available, both at the Memorial Hall and from our Cottage Kitchen where Patchwork Group members will be on hand to serve you luscious goodies to munch on as well as hot or cold drinks to enjoy while settling back for a well earned rest under cover on our garden patio.
Entry is Free and Food and Drink charges are very reasonable.

Nappy bags for STEMM

Debby, with a little help from her son,  has sent us some pics and an insight into what the busy Thursday nighters have been up to this week.  Thank you Debby.

A big hello from the Thursday night girls.  Firstly we would like to welcome our 3 new members.  

Louisa joined during the last few weeks before Xmas.  Louisa got into the swing of things quickly when we had Jenny teach us how to make a cute little bag for cotton, needles, buttons & bits, unfortunately Louise was not at tonight's meeting so we will catch up with her another time.

We also welcome Sue, (who also made the cute bag) and here is holding one of her colourful quilt tops.

& Karen who have just joined.  Karen told us that she loves Japanese fabric so June showed her the tessellated quilt quilt she made & Karen came with machine under her arm the following week & within 2 weeks has nearly finished her tessellated quilt top.  Go Karen.

Tonight, Di helped us make nappy bags for STEMM.  Thanks girls for helping this worthy cause.

We will make more next week.  Thanks Di. Its a nice feeling to give.

An enthusiasm for Crazy Patchwork builds and a disaster......

firstly - the disaster, something that I worry about happening, did happen, there were some lovely items on the show and tell table yesterday,  I got called away while Sheila was showing them and their creators were telling their stories,......I usually don't fret too much when that happens, I get the low down from the creator when I take the pics - but yesterday,... dare I confess? - (in a bit of a whisper)....."I didn't take a pic".  Can you believe it?
I am still reeling.
So here, with apologies, are a couple of  cropped pics of some really beautiful work that I will hopefully be able to update next week.

A beautiful and beautifully stitched tapestry cushion, and just behind it, a casserole carrier, I saw that beauty being shown by Sheila and I can tell you it is just the ant's pants, large enough for a decent sized casserole or lasagne dish, stout wooden handles and well padded, I shall be keeping my eyes peeled at the next fair for one of these beauties, or maybe a commission?? ----

And these two lovely Jewellery rolls, I didn't even see them laid out......but the colours are magnificient, just calling to you to have a little pat and a pet.

Jenny, from the Thursday Evening group has agreed to be the Judge of our Lyn Ballinger Challenge this year, 

and for some of us the challenge is going to live up to it's name, just cast your peepers over this little bombshell on the side!... in particular that bottom line..........no Patchwork Cottons .....eeeek.

Thank goodness Sheila organised a little treasure bag of laces and goodies for us as our Christmas Gift.

Jenny very kindly agreed to come along to our meeting to give us a bit of a heads up on just what is involved in Crazy Patchwork, now unless you have really looked into Crazy Patchwork it could leave you a little cold.........but after yesterday not even a tinsy nip was to be felt, everyone is totally enthused, Jenny explained her method of Crazy Patch and had many samples of her wonderful work,as well as some examples of her students work, and on top of that, patterns that Jenny teaches down at Patchwork Angel, in particular the cutest little box. Just gorgeous, give the girls at the Angel a tingle to join Jenny in a class.


Janice getting a few pointers from Jenny on her 4 square throw, sashed with black velvet, this sumptuous piece seemed to be the most popular piece on show.

with an abundance of ribbons, buttons, beads and the most intricate embroidery  you can spend ages drooling over each block........don't ask how I know......the tinsy cupids aiming their arrows at the tiny gold heart, the spider and her web, and the curiosity of what story is behind this piece with the olympic rings embroidered on one square.

The black fringe and the myriad of textured fabrics give this throw a feeling of luxury, Jenny wanted it to reflect some of the colours and memories of South Africa, and I think she has certainly succeeded.

Jenny had quite a pile of blocks, a WIP of outstanding proportions, how beautifully embroidered they all are.

 and a cuter than cute work basket, full of goodies for Crazy Patch.

As we arrived yesterday, Sheila gave each member a number, well, we knew we were in for a treat, and what a surprising and generous treat it was. 
Meg, who you will surely remember, makes the most divine silk bags, bought along a box full of her hand dyed silks as a gift for us and also gave us a few pointers on using and stitching silk.

Just look at that box full of the most vibrant through to the most beautifully subtle shaded silks.  Can you imagine the ooohs and ahhs as each number was called and the silks were turned over.......not to mention the gasped prayers of  'oh gosh, please leave that, it would be perfect'. There is lots of sharing and trading, and groups getting together to see just what we really do have in our stashes.  Thank you Meg for being so generous and sharing with us.

It certainly was a day for the opulent, Janette bought along a quilt that has been 3 years in the making, a house warming for one of her Sons.  Janette, with Janet as helper, smiled beautifully in this pic, can't you see them? just behind the quilt, standing on chairs to show of the quilt in all it's glory........what we do for our passion!

and now you see why they stood on chairs for us, otherwise we would have missed out on the top of a fabulous applique quilt.  Janette machine quilted this beauty herself, and I don't believe the grin behind the quilt could have been any bigger than this smile of justifiable pride.

Julie gathered these fabrics at a Brisbane Craft show last year with a quilt in mind for her Niece's new baby to be, on turning to leave the booth she then spied the quilt pattern........and so one very lucky little miss has a lovely new quilt.......mind you, this is the second quilt that the little great niece has received from her great Aunty

Remember those cute teddies and the nine patches from last week, well Betty decided to use some of her Japanese fabrics as hearts for their tummies, aren't they so cute?

These little bears are going to make the loveliest quilt for one of the younger set, Betty is using a Country Cupboard Designs pattern

and just look at the cute little tote that comes with the pattern, wouldn't a little girl just love that for a gift.

Row x Row Reveal for Thursday night girls

Another wonderful bundle (well several actually) of lusciousness to drool over made their appearance with the last group's row x row reveal.  The Thursday nighters had 9 participants in their row x row, hence the later reveal date.
 The night started off with Marleene and Lorraine scooting the screens from storage into the Atrium and pinning up each flimsey to be, Marleen had them all sorted and arranged in order to cut down on time and she quickly got down to work.

It was a bit of a different story with Lorraine though, she just couldn't help herself, picking up her bag, and trying to sneak little peaks, Marlene gave it up and let her pin her own reveal, 

 

I can tell you there was some excitement in that Atrium............and it was catching, just ask any of the arriving Botanical Gardens members.

Finally all the rows were pinned, and the girls allowed in to find and admire their Row x Rows, there were such gasps of delight and much ooohhing and aaahing but one comment came over loud and clear.  'Yes, I like that!', it was a sentiment echoed around the room.

 Di was more than delighted with her rows, they are to be a wall hanging in her sewing room, her own row at the top says it all, 'I love sewing,'

JENNY
Jenny started her rows off with appliqued teapots for a high tea theme, her last row of hearts has the sweetest little stitchery as a center pannel.

 

 

Just had to show you those cup cakes, they had Jenny rubbing her tummy they look so yummy.

MAUREENE

Maureene, started her rows off with a traditional floral design appliqued across the width of the row, the theme was continued througout,  with the last row being a lovely vine with heart shaped leaves and these rather beautiful fussy cut flowers with the vine spilling over onto the tiled side blocks.

JANE B

Jane B chose an interesting pointed pattern to applique across her row, at first glance almost a Grandma's Flower Garden, but coming to points in the center instead of the traditional hexagon shapes. The flower row used the traditional Grandmas Garden along a vine, the shape of the leaves being echoed in the 9 Patch blocks on the next row.

LETITIA

Letitia,  started her rows with beautiful angels on the wing, her second row is the cutest flowers using suffolk puffs and buttons with a beautiful sentiment stitched among the blooms.

JANE

Jane wanted a quilt to celebrate her Daughters 21st Birthday Party, Jane had used a blue and silver colour scheme with the theme of 'Masquerade'  for her Daughters party, and asked for it to be repeated in her rows.

 

A note book was supplied for the girls to record their thoughts and design elements as they went, a wonderful idea that everyone took full advantage of.

JUNE
There was a great deal of merriment around June's quilt, with many a story, but the one that stood out was of a Christmas party game, where you were able to lay claim to anothers present, a piece of fabric, June really wanted one particular piece and managed to pounce on it early on in the game, but disaster...........it got claimed.......but then, sneakily, Marleen re-claimed it as her turn at the end of day and gave it to June, all's well that ends well, June put the piece to good use in her row,

here they are, having a good laugh over the memory

Marleen then told us about getting inspiration from one of the girls in the Wednesday Row x Row to fussy cut a picture for the center of her star row that she did for June.
Marleen didn't do a row x row as such, she was backup for anyone who was away on hols and did several of the rows.
The row above the stars, is a 9 Patch row, how cleverly disguised, look carefull and you will see the huts are the 9 patch!
June was very excited about her rows, wouldn't mind betting the quilt is just about done by now!.

LORRAINE

And of course some one has to be last, sorry Lorraine, you did a beautiful job of pinning your rows up, wonder if that will be the finished layout?.  Lorraine's own row is the row running vertically down the side of the screen.
