This is a tiny portion of Flora's Feathers, a brilliant quilt made by Geni in memory of her mother.
Unfortunately, I really have done something silly in the set up of this blog and my personal blogs, I am unable to contact anyone through their blog profile to welcome them as blog followers.

Surrounded by Goodies

It was a lovely day of gifts and goodies today, the suggestion having been made a couple of weeks ago that all members be given two pieces of fabric to make an item of their choice for personal sales at the Christmas Fair.
Barbara was delighted to make her selection, she has a plan in mind already.


And who wouldn't be pleased? such lovely fabrics, they will be a pleasure to work with. Although one little group came up with the brilliant idea of pooling their fabrics and making a Christmas Tree Wall Hanging, we even elected Wendy to make it for us. Ta Wen!

The quilt behind Penny is made using a set of large Drunkard's Path Templates.

Sue, one of our members who has since moved interstate sent us a gift voucher to the Angel that she won last year and hadn't gotten around to using, from memory Sue was one of last years Lyn Ballinger Challenge winners.

Sheila suggested we use the voucher to go towards a set of templates for our library and the large Drunkards Path templates were chosen, hence the choice of quilt for display.

Penny bought along gizmos and gadgets from her shop, Patchwork Angel, to demonstrate for us, along with patterns galore and a small selection of cut fabrics. Penny also bought along the ordered set of templates and presented them to the Library committee and made a donation of the balance of the cost of the templates, and she also mentioned that she had a 'counter mat' that she was donating to the group but had left behind at the shop, well that sounded just lovely, we love donations, who doesn't ? so applause and thank yous were said, we then adjourned for Arvo Tea.

But can you imagine our surprise and delight when a familiar red ute and trailer came dashing into the car park and out sprang Penny's Darling with this enormous big green cutting mat.........yep, the aforementioned counter mat..........a cutting mat for a counter!

Penny told us that we have Tony from Victorian Textiles in Melbourne to thank for the mat, it was incorrectly delivered to her store and instead of having it returned Tony agreed that it could be donated to a local patchwork group.

High tea and wonderful views to quilt by

How exciting, arrived home from a rather excellent roast lamb dinner with the Grandies to these pics and an e-mail from Lorraine H.
Lorraine and some of the group had a wonderful day quilting in Eumundi. Lorraine's story and pics tell the tale, it all sounds just wonderful.



Last weekend some of the Thursday ladies went up to Sue Daley's B&B at Eumundi for a wonderful day of quilting and all-day High Tea.

The day was organised by Penny at Patchwork Angel, and we spent the day in beautiful old world surroundings with 30 other ladies working on our projects which were all provided.

As well as the marvelous company and the glorious high tea (which was served continuously throughout the day) - we also received a fantastic goodies bag plus all the patterns, materials and tools required for our quilting projects.

Christmas must be just around the corner....

The ever organised Wendy bought this Christmas sack that she has made for her Grandie, Jack along for Show and Tell. Gosh Wendy, I remember when a Christmas Stocking was all the go..........yep, showing my age again!
It seems that others were also taken with Sue's 4 patch kaleidoscope, Gwen wanted to try the concept and bought this flimsy along today to show her take on the idea, a more formal set out with the double nine patch design, Don't ya just love design diversity!
Heather was really determined that her quilt was not going to 'hit the deck' for these pics, so here we have her peeking over the top of this wonderful teddy bear quilt. It had been all packed up and ready to go to it's new home, but Heather was kind enough to show us the finished quilt as we have seen progress shots over the last few weeks.
Lorraine has been getting a little help with her apiary from a friend and as a thank you she 'ran up' this quilt, only took her a couple of days she tells us.
Lorraine had the perfect backing fabric in her stash, but not enough of it,...gee, isn't that a familiar story? so she solved the problem by piecing the lovely bee fabric with a piece of mottled blue, goes together perfectly,
and shows the quilting beautifully..........two days?, I'm still getting my head around that one.
So who else out there in quilting land pieces their backing? and how do you do it? with a pattern or in simple stripes? How about one large friendship star to make a reversible quilt!
