It's all about purple.....

Wendy shared this lovely quilt with us and gave the girls a demo on how to cut and assemble the blocks, really, its easy when you know how....well, that's what Wendy said.

Marie thought the quilt was so lovely she wanted it as a backdrop to showing off her bag that she made in Sue's workshops.

It was the Mooloola Valley Quilt group's Show and Tell day and Beryl won one of the many raffles, this pretty pansy cushion, in, of course purples.....Beryl even wore a purple bracelet to go with her purple top.....

Estelle has made two quilts for the pediatric intensive care unit where her little Grandie was treated.

Sue shared this stunning Celtic knot design table runner

Wendy was showing her almost finished UFO to Fran, bought as a kit a wee while back, lots of lovely lacy ruffles and ric rac.

Dorothy bought along the cutest little sewing box to share with us, take off the lid and the sides fall down to reveal a complete sewing kit, even has a special spot for your thimble and the top of the lid is a pin cushion.

International Quilt Association Winners

The 2010 Winning quilts in the IQA 'Quilts: A World of Beauty' judged at Houston are now available on the International Quilt Association site.
Beautiful and stunning quilts, covering many various quilting methods, from the Traditional pieced or appliqued, Computer-Aided Machine Embroidery, Art Painted Surface, Pictorial and various categories of Art Quilts.

Christmas is in the Air

...with lots of Show and Tell of a Christmas theme, but first I'd like to share this pic of the Grandie with you. 
He loved visiting the Cottage at our recent mini retreat and taking pics of the girls working on the mystery project, a wall hanging with an innovative way of displaying your Christmas Cards (slip paperclips over bright small buttons - Cool huh?!) 
As soon as we got home he raided the stash, choose his fabrics and asked, 'Grandma - show me how'.  Little did we know that a couple of days later he was to break his wrist, so here he is, in his black plaster showing off his wall-hanging.

 

Entrance to the Cottage is through the Atrium where we have a lovely glass display cabinet that all the groups take it in turn of filling and displaying their craft, this month it is the Patchwork groups turn and as Christmas is just around the corner we decided on a Christmas theme for our display.  

Lorraine bought in these lovely tree decorations, prairie points folded from wire edged ribbon.

 Janice bought along more of her Suffolk Puff tree decorations.

Christmas stockings that we have seen previously, but they are so cute another viewing won't go astray, we even unearthed a fourth one at the other end of the table - Thanks Ailsa.

Sets of Hexagon placemats with contrasting backing, some with matching coasters from Janice.

Sue has another take on her machine assembled Hexagons, these coasters with a cute star being formed in the center.

The bags have been finished from Sue's workshop, Louise and Ailsa helped display them for the pics - Thanks girls.

Helen bought her latest flimsey in to share, Crossed Canoes blocks that form several secondary designs of propellers and circles. 

Sue shared this really cute little quilt, in fact it was so cute we were all standing around, gooing and ga-ing over it so much, we made Susie go all cutsie.

Sadly, laughter and photography don't really go together all that well, the pic is a bit blurry, and its the best of the bunch!

Sue found the designs on Vicki's blog, Tozz's Corner,  as a freebie BOM.  Thanks Vicki, its a lovely design.

Judy's Quilts, at last......

Finally, and with thanks to Betty for organising the event, we have a posting of a small selection of Judy's quilts for you to drool over, they are on the 'stand alone' page aptly named 'Judy's Quilts' just under our header.

A Heads Up......

Firstly, some of our group members are involved in the 'Artisan Extravaganza' at Bellflower Retirement Village this Saturday (30th.)
The Gals and Guys are having their annual Art and Pottery Display of high quality goodies, lots available for sale, too numerous to mention, but a few are paintings, patchwork, DECORATED Christmas Cakes......gotta get me one of those! lots of other hand crafts, dolls and cooking, even potted plants!

Morning and Arvo Tea and a Sausage Sizzle for lunch, all at more than reasonable prices.

So Much Happening in Our Quilting World.

Gosh there has been so much happening, lots of wonderful Show and Tell, Workshops, Our Annual Bus Trip to the Brissy Craft Show, which of course the 'especially created for the event' committee of 'Lets Shop for the Group' worked very hard and bought us home a pile of new books.  Wonderfully inspiring new books, that we all wanted to take home right there and then!!
But first things first, we need to catch up on last weeks goings on (yeah I know, computers are the best thing since sliced bread, except for when they won't work.....then they give you a whole new meaning to the word frustration!)
Janet's very luck Granddaughter is to get a new quilt.......and what a quilt, one of Kelly's designs from 'Don't Look Now'

 The quilt is designed to be wide enough to hang well down over the bed sides, with a whimsical design of kittens playing in the grass and flowers.  Janet did her own quilting using a Q.A.Y.G. method.

While some members were drooling over Janet's wonderful quilt, others were hard at work in Lesson 1 of Sue's Bag Workshop. 
There were fabrics to be chosen and cut.

Lots of little strips to be cut and pressed and then arranged around the cut squares, and a great gizmo under Marcia's machine, a little mat with pockets at the front.  Now that's an idea!

And by the end of lessons there will be loads of lovely bags, just like these.....but different!

Show and Tell saw lots of finished articles from our Mini Retreat, Caitti decorated her white Christmas tree with pine cones and a wood rose, while Wendy went with lots of lovely red buttons.  There were hexagon place mats, Christmas decorations, stockings and the most gorgeous little knit.

Caitti then shared more of her beautiful silk ribbon embroidery, these designs on a linen hand towel.

Lesson 2 of Sues workshop had the girls all head down and sewing up a storm, lots of little tubes to be turned using bias bars, measuring and cutting going on.

The bags are going to be just beautiful, we will show them as soon as they are finished, at the moment they look a little, well, disjointed?, in pieces? not all together there?

Sheila had a new book, 'Designing Quilts is Easy!', well I didn't get to have a peek, so can't honestly tell, but it sure takes concentration getting all those vibrant fabrics to play nicely together.  Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

Of course, there was too much catching up to do yesterday, so Heather bought along a 'walk with me' project, the cutest ruffled scarf.
