Another U.F.O and some interesting sites to look over
Wendy sent us a pic of this lovely, she also sent the story, and Ive lost it, not gonna bore you with the details, suffice to say, there is a little unhappiness in my little neck of the woods. (Big Sigh!!!)
But if I can remember the story it goes something like this...
Bought as a kit on a holiday in Hawaii (?) quite a few years back but when Wendy finally opened the pack, she found that the fabrics were nothing like those pictured.
As you all know, its the pic on the front of the pack that appeals. Result, unimpressed Wendy, but still she has turned out this cutie. Just love the movement.

They are asking for squares from many avenues of textiles, all details come up when searching for Queensland Quarantine Quilt, some of our members might be interested.
Also I’ve just looked at the Facebook page of Qld Spinners and Weavers, WOW, look at a huge body of work from people all around the world, it blows your mind.......I only went back to early April.

Ever heard of a quilt/wall hanging made from pretty hankies?,
this is another that keeps popping up on F'book.
Brenda Raleigh Lunsford, a member of the f/book group Scrappy Girls Club, folds pretty hankies into dresses, think origami folding. Brenda has a 12-14 min video explaining the method on Scrappy Girls Club, but you would have to do a search for it, however this link will take you to Bumblebee Linens for a step by step tutorial.

Some Catching Up...
Two lovely photos of lovely lasses have landed in the mail box.
First is from Sandy with a catch up for us on Fae.
Sandy "Lots of our ladies ask me how Fae is getting on (she lives in the same street as me) so I thought I would send along this photo.
It was taken late on Mother’s Day at an impromptu get together, with appropriate social distancing of course. Unfortunately her eyes are shut which is probably due to the wine - I’m not saying which one of us had the issue. She scoots around on her wheely walker and looks well (when not drinking copious amounts of wine). She says hi to all."

Karen shared a photo of Pat and her 'Big O' birthday catch up.
Karen "Attached is a photo of the birthday gift giving for Pat’s birthday earlier this year. Sheila and I delivered the gift Sunday week ago and it was lovely to catch up with Pat"

Sheila's Drunkards Path and a sad U.F.O

The story of how this quilt came into being, its been in the 'interested/planning' stage for awhile.

Sheila's story got me to thinking about our U.F.O's and 'One Day' lists.
Decided to unearth my oldest U.F.O. and give you all a laugh and perhaps you will join me on a trip down the U.F.O. memory lane.
Of course, to share this madness with you the box containing the sampler had to be located. Being the slightly anal creature that I am, turning to an excel storage list quickly bought the box to light, not so quickly was the unboxing.
This sucker was boxed up many years ago and taped down when we moved 3 years ago. 3 year old packing tape! - not something to be undertaken lightly I can tell you, it splits, it sticks in a way you don't want to argue with and is just generally a bit of a mess and a pest. (and I have to tell you - there are more of these taped boxes lurking around-ugh!)
Just to add to the 'yumminess' of the exercise, the 'Sample Quilt' book on top was so old it has started to break down, I now have a space full of dust, plastic shards, sticky lumps and the curiosity of old handmade templates along with the leftover fabric.
The 'quilt to be' has obviously been hung on a design wall, I used to buy really cheap matress protectors, this sucker crackles as it is moved and the state of it as it was unfolded was rather scarry, you know the story, those yucky marks you get on any fabric that has been folded away for years.
By this stage I was really starting to worry about the whole exercise and was tempted to just shove everything back in the box and file it away it the tall green 'outdoor filing' thingy, but curiosity and a certain amount of early morning bravado stepped in. (you know that special time when everyone is asleep and there isn't much chance of getting sprung doing something that in the end you might not want to share)
Kinda glad I continued, the quilt blocks are in good nick, having been protected by the protector. Wish I could say they were a joy to behold, but nah...
so I guess the challenge is...
Choice 1. - Finish the sucker...honestly, not much chance of that happening.
Choice 2. - Break it down and convert it into charity quilts - the large blocks are 12" and there is quite a bit of leftover fabric so that could happen but honestly, why foist it onto some poor sausage.
or choice number 3.- Box it up and ignore it for a few more years.
Yeah, I agree, choice number 3!
Send a pic of your old U.F.O. or 'some day' plans. Lets all have a giggle at how times have moved on, not only with fabrics but also what we once thought was just the bees knees of quilt designs and if your 'one day' design has stood the test of time.

65 Year Anniversary...
Just got a very important heads up from Sheila.

I just happened to ring today to see how she was going & she told me today was their anniversary!"

Lockdown lingo - are you fully conversant with the new terminology?
*Coronacoaster*
The ups and downs of your mood during the pandemic. You’re loving lockdown one minute but suddenly weepy with anxiety the next. It truly is “an emotional coronacoaster”.
*Quarantinis*
Experimental cocktails mixed from whatever random ingredients you have left in the house. The boozy equivalent of a store cupboard supper. Southern Comfort and Ribena quarantini with a glacé cherry garnish, anyone? These are sipped at “locktail hour”, ie. wine o’clock during lockdown, which seems to be creeping earlier with each passing week.
*Le Creuset wrist*
It’s the new “avocado hand” - an aching arm after taking one’s best saucepan outside to bang during the weekly ‘Clap For Carers.’ It might be heavy but you’re keen to impress the neighbours with your high-quality kitchenware.

As opposed to millennials, this refers to the future generation of babies conceived during coronavirus quarantine. They might also become known as “Generation C” or, more spookily, “Children of the Quarn”.
*Furlough Merlot*
Wine consumed in an attempt to relieve the frustration of not working. Also known as “bored-eaux” or “cabernet tedium”.
*Coronadose*
An overdose of bad news from consuming too much media during a time of crisis. Can result in a panicdemic.
*The elephant in the Zoom*
The glaring issue during a videoconferencing call that nobody feels able to mention. E.g. one participant has dramatically put on weight, suddenly sprouted terrible facial hair or has a worryingly messy house visible in the background.
*Quentin Quarantino*
An attention-seeker using their time in lockdown to make amateur films which they’re convinced are funnier and cleverer than they actually are.
*Covidiot* or *Wuhan-ker*
One who ignores public health advice or behaves with reckless disregard for the safety of others can be said to display “covidiocy” or be “covidiotic”. Also called a “lockclown” or even a “Wuhan-ker”.
*Goutbreak*
The sudden fear that you’ve consumed so much wine, cheese, home-made cake and Easter chocolate in lockdown that your ankles are swelling up like a medieval king’s.
*Antisocial distancing*
Using health precautions as an excuse for snubbing neighbours and generally ignoring people you find irritating.
*Coughin’ dodger*
Someone so alarmed by an innocuous splutter or throat-clear that they back away in terror.
*Mask-ara*
Extra make-up applied to "make one’s eyes pop" before venturing out in public wearing a face mask.
*Covid-10*
The 10 kgs in weight that we’re all gaining from comfort-eating and comfort-drinking. Also known as “fattening the curve”.

A new scrappy with a hombre twist
