2013 Quilt Show Winners

One of the big thrills of a Quilt Show of course is guessing who the winners will be.  Our group has chosen not to have a 'Judged' winner but to have all our visitors vote for the quilt they like best.
Our  Quilt Show Viewers Choice winner is Gwen for her amazing quilt 'Venetian Floor'
Gwen was presented with a Gift Voucher to spend at Patchwork Angel and the perpetual trophy of a quilt stand.
There is a lovely story behind the quilt stand.  Part of our Group meet in each others homes for an extra dose of stitchin' 'n' goss, they call themselves the 'Bossies', or more formally 'The Bossy Stitchers' (and each and every one of them agree, yes, everyone else in the group is....)
Janet was also a member of the Bossies, and in her memory the girls decided to donate a perpetual trophy of a quilt stand for the Quilt Show Viewers Choice Winner, a lovely way to keep alive the memory of such a popular and giving lady who is so sadly missed.

Penny and Janet's Darling John, presenting Gwen with her winners certificate, a lovely gift voucher to spend at Patchwork Angel, and of course the new Quilt Stand Perpetual Trophy.

The Bossies were there to help present the trophy to Gwen, except for Marlene who had a better offer (actually, family stuff, but you know how it goes) so I have popped a pic of  our lovely Marlene into a collage for you all.

Second Choice was Sue for 'Baltimore Revisited', another amazing quilt,

Third Choice was Pat for 'Beyond Art Deco Glass'

Now here is some very exciting news, Pat just couldn't stop smiling, she had just got the news that 'Beyond Art Deco Glass' had passed the first selection process for her quilt in the judging of the Yokohama International Quilt Festival, next step, sending her baby off to Yokohama for the final judging.
Congratulations Pat, we are all very proud of you and wish you and 'Beyond...' all the best and hopefully the news of a win in October.

Part of our Quilt Show is the Lyn Ballinger Challenge, which is Judged twice, once by a Judge at our Luncheon (Judged 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, with gift voucher prizes)  and once by the visitors to our Quilt Show (Viewers Choice Award - the winner to receive the Lyn Ballinger Perpetual Trophy of a Quilt Stand).

This year the challenge was to use all of a 5" square of fabric in the creation of a place mat and there were some truly innovative place mats created.

This year we were honoured to have the lovely Kim from Kimz Sewing and Patchwork as Judge for the Challenge

1st Prize was Jackie, 2nd Prize was Sue and Lyn was in 3rd Place, all girls received gift vouchers donated by Kim to spend in her store.

Viewers Choice winner was Sue with this inspired creation of a waterfall.

As you can see, Sue was rather tickled to receive her Certificate from Sheila and a gift voucher from Penny.

Penny and Kim were the store vendors at the Show and had a delicious array of goodies to whet the appetite and get the creative juices flowing.
We are truly lucky here on the Sunshine Coast to have the support of both Penny and Kim and their wonderful Patchwork stores of Kimz  and  the Angel to sate our stash building desires. Both stores have the most helpful staff and nothing is ever too much trouble, all girls are happy to help with information and guidance, and of course both stores have the most amazing selection of classes and tutors available to help us all grow as Patchworkers.

Thank you  Kim and Penny for being so involved with our Quilt Show, for your generosity, your support and of course the yummy vouchers.

After such a successful Quilt Show you would be forgiven for thinking the gals were sitting back and taking a well deserved breather, but no, the buzz and the ideas were flying thick and fast at Wednesdays meeting, look what I spied sitting on the table, the cutest little tin full of the cutest little hexies and hexies to be.
yep, Marcia has been bitten by the tinsie hexie bug,

she tells that it will be a little, emphasis on little, wall hanging, ......we shall see.

New member Deanne was busily working on a pin cushion with a difference, rooster on an old cotton reel, just look at that tail!
Deanne was a little shy to have her pic taken, her hair is just growing out from a  cancer support shave.  Gotta take your hat off to all those with the conviction and courage to loose all their hair in support of cancer sufferers.
