High tea and wonderful views to quilt by

How exciting, arrived home from a rather excellent roast lamb dinner with the Grandies to these pics and an e-mail from Lorraine H.
Lorraine and some of the group had a wonderful day quilting in Eumundi. Lorraine's story and pics tell the tale, it all sounds just wonderful.



Last weekend some of the Thursday ladies went up to Sue Daley's B&B at Eumundi for a wonderful day of quilting and all-day High Tea.

The day was organised by Penny at Patchwork Angel, and we spent the day in beautiful old world surroundings with 30 other ladies working on our projects which were all provided.

As well as the marvelous company and the glorious high tea (which was served continuously throughout the day) - we also received a fantastic goodies bag plus all the patterns, materials and tools required for our quilting projects.

Christmas must be just around the corner....

The ever organised Wendy bought this Christmas sack that she has made for her Grandie, Jack along for Show and Tell. Gosh Wendy, I remember when a Christmas Stocking was all the go..........yep, showing my age again!
It seems that others were also taken with Sue's 4 patch kaleidoscope, Gwen wanted to try the concept and bought this flimsy along today to show her take on the idea, a more formal set out with the double nine patch design, Don't ya just love design diversity!
Heather was really determined that her quilt was not going to 'hit the deck' for these pics, so here we have her peeking over the top of this wonderful teddy bear quilt. It had been all packed up and ready to go to it's new home, but Heather was kind enough to show us the finished quilt as we have seen progress shots over the last few weeks.
Lorraine has been getting a little help with her apiary from a friend and as a thank you she 'ran up' this quilt, only took her a couple of days she tells us.
Lorraine had the perfect backing fabric in her stash, but not enough of it,...gee, isn't that a familiar story? so she solved the problem by piecing the lovely bee fabric with a piece of mottled blue, goes together perfectly,
and shows the quilting beautifully..........two days?, I'm still getting my head around that one.
So who else out there in quilting land pieces their backing? and how do you do it? with a pattern or in simple stripes? How about one large friendship star to make a reversible quilt!

Shopping at Johno's

Was rather taken by Sue's very pretty and clever 4 patch kaleidoscope on the 29th July Post. Sue told us that she had visited Johno's Variety Centre for the Fabric as she 'just wanted to try the concept'. Johno's is more widely know to the Dancing Mums for a wonderful array of Dance fabrics and sequins, so off I trotted to find out more.

What a lovely surprise, the store is packed to the rafters with not only Dance Fabrics and Accessories, but a great range of Haberdashery and other fabrics and more importantly, a reasonably large and continually expanding range of quality quilting fabrics with the most expensive being the Japanese prints at $14.00 per meter, of course the temptation was just too great and I bought a little home with me.

While there the owner, Robin, a friendly and very helpful lass told me of some bargains that were due in later in the week, and yes, they are now in stock.

Binding Tutorial and a Pincushion Challenge from SEWN

We all know how to bind a quilt, right?

Well Linda Hungerford, a fellow QDU'er (online quilting group) has posted a tutorial on her blog http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/ on a method that I have not previously come across.

o.k. you all probably know all about it, but I'm sucked in and am trying it a.s.a.p, just got to get the borders done on the little sucker I'm working on, and its going to get Linda's binding treatment.
Linda's method is one of "no joining and has machine-sewn mitred corners". Looks really cool, can't wait to try it. Check out Linda's blog for some other great tutorials as well, her scalloped edges look really interesting. - No not Linda's edges, her quilt, she doesn't look scalloped at all

Debbie's a Star

Quite a bit of excitement at Thursday nights meeting last week. Leader June presented Debbie Christie with her 'Star of the Month' Button, Congratulations Debbie on a job well done.Debbie won the 'Star of the Month' for her hard work in helping to set up for our Quilt Show.
Although I think Sheila said it best "Debbie showed us her special Talents, in patchwork, setting up displays, selling, climbing ladders and mopping'. - Yep at the end of the day, she mopped most of the cottage floors, a mammoth effort.
