 "Just loved these fabrics when I saw them at various quilt shops over the past years.  I machine pieced them with a traditional snowball pattern with an odd block included.  Professionally quilted by my friend Judy from Furball Farm quilting.

'Old Timer - Rusty Truck'

"I came upon this old truck on a trip to Ravensworth, a mining town west of Townsville.  We had a Ford truck like this on our farm in Tasmania many years ago.  It brought back many happy memories of my young family loading hay on a sunny day.
The rusting truck stood in the dappled shade from a tall tree.  The bright sunlight on top of the cab and the bushland beyond made such a pleasing contrast.  I was so pleased I had my camera.
My background fabric was dyed, (sky and foreground). Then I used an electric tracer to enlarge the image of the grill onto the background fabric, the rest of the truck was drawn on.  I worked from the top down.  The green bushland, then I traced the truck.  As I worked on each piece of the truck it was cut from the tracing paper and the fabric was appliqued by fusing.
I have 'sun dyed' the greens, browns and orange fabric.
Blue net was used for shading.  Fusing was used on all parts of the truck.  The quilting was done on a domestic machine by myself.  The fabrics are all cotton."

Our 2015 Lyn Ballinger Challenge.  'Table Runner, using two hues adjacent on the colour spectrum, no larger than 50 x 25cm'.

Challenge judged winners as well as the winner of 'Viewers Choice'  will be announced at the Lyn Ballinger Luncheon in 3 weeks.  The challenge pieces were used as Lucky Door prizes for our Show visitors and the winners are currently being advised of their wins.

'Time Rich - Fabric Free' - a Megan Null inspired crumb quilt via Ami Simms' challenge.

Ami Simms posted a video of the amazing young lady she met in class.
Megan Null saves every tiny scrap from her quilts, piecing them all together into squares, logs or triangles to create 'crumb' quilts.  An almost free quilt!
When our group ran an in-house Jelly Roll Race, just for fun I collected all the little scraps to give Megans's idea a go.

'Last Tango in Houston'

"Every day I was at the Houston Quilt Festival I walked past this quilt kit and finally I bought it on the last day.  The colours and pattern were so striking that I just had to have it (along with many others),

I machine pieced the quilt and it was machine quilted by Yankee Doodle Quilting".

The hanging is inspired by traditional Japanese Kokeshi Dolls

It's always a pleasure to have the Fabric Arts girls Challenge feature in our Quilt Show.
Both groups have a yearly challenge but a biennial exhibition and so we each feature the other groups challenge an each exhibition.  Just one of the many benefits of belonging to the Cottage.

'My Memories of Kashmir'

"I like Leesa Chandler of Melbourne fabrics and these reminded me of my visit to India in 1986,
The pattern was adapted from a pattern from Patchwork and Quilting January 2009.
I machine pieced the quilt in 2012 then handed it over to Fiona, the Quilting Fairy for machine quilting in 2012

Some things take a while to 'get around to it'.  About 18 years this one has waited! A lovely class at Ulladulla N.S.W. with a guest teacher Glenys Mann.

'Serengeti'
"My very first raw edge applique piece of 67 pieces.  It did however give me the incentive to finish a Lorraine Carther piece which was started many years ago. 
The quilt is a Toni Whitney design.
I machine appliqued and machine quilted the quilt".

This quilt is one of Pat's donated fabrics.  The squares were made and numbered in rows ready to put together which I did and then put the borders on.
The qult will be donated to 'Sunny Kids'

'North'

Based on a quilt spotted on Pinterest, unfortunately no links to who created the original.  I altered the design to feature 'Flying Geese' blocks all flying...North".

'Pinwheels Spinning Either Way'

"I like the fabrics in the Jelly Rolls but some friends prefer the reverse side! 
The design is a variation of a pattern in an old issue of Patchwork and Quilting.
I machine pieced the quilt and it was machine quilted by Carmen Brown".

'Dot's Friends'

"I remember a book from my childhood titled 'Dot and the Kangaroo'.  It was very special to me because it had belonged to my mother (no longer with us) and that book would have been first read by my mother 85 years ago.
The panel I chanced upon in Townsville 30 years past.  Now I have 2 little granddaughters to whom many stories can be narrated over the coming years emanating from the quilted panels.

"This was a block of the month quilt that my husband gave to me as a birthday gift.  (Probably because he likes cats!)
The quilt is a McKenna Ryan design and was machine quilted by me.

'Pure Opulence'

"This is my first effort at hand piecing.  I intend to make 12 blocks but decided if I was ever going to finish it five blocks would do!  I only used four fabrics on the quilt top with the border print providing the different designs.
The pattern was designed by Sampler Quilts.
I hand pieced the quilt and it was machine quilted by Liz Traynor".

It's Over, done and dusted, missing it already...

...yep really, it was a fantastic quilt exhibition, masses of wonderful quilts to drool over or be inspired by.  Great excitement and camaraderie between all the volunteers, especially those who came in every day of the show.  The pride in raising heaps of $$$s for Najidah with our quilt raffles, we sold heaps of lovely goodies, lots of $$$'s floating back to creators to buy - you guessed it, more fabric!!

After the hours of planning and setting up the show it was amazing to watch it come down so quickly, thanks to the unstinting help of so many volunteers, particularly the wonderful menfolk who pitched in to move all those heavy tables, plinths, chairs and re-setting up of the Cottage.
A very big thank you to Nathan, Geoff, Ross, Lionel, John and Paul for your unstinting hard work.

"I made this quilt because I needed a blanket for my bears.  I chose the colours because they looked pretty".

'Wendy's House'

A group of us decided to do this same quilt.  It is interesting to see how the different colour choices and fabrics make for very different quilts.  

The pattern is 'Leanne's House' by Leanne Beasley.

I hand embroidered and machine pieced and quilted the quilt.

'Affordable Faberge'                                                                              

"I love using Jinny Beyer's fabrics and this kit caught my eye because of the beautiful jewel fabrics.  It was quite challenging to make and there was a lot of unpicking involved.

I machine pieced the quilt and it was machine quilted by Judy of Furball Farm Quilting.

'May Flowers'

"At our last Quilt Show in 2013 several members had made quilts in this design by Joanne Ridley from the book 'Jelly Roll Inspirations' by Pam and Nicky Lintott, I liked the simple design and the combination of machine sewing and hand applique.  I originally intended to make only a single size bed but decided to expand it to cover the bed in our guest room.  It came together very quickly and it was finished off beautifully by the Quilting Fairy, Fiona.  Visitors have commented that it looks very Irish but I just love the colours".

'Gingham Girls'

 "I received the pattern and kit for this quilt as a gift.  It took a couple of years to complete.  I laid out all the fabrics for all the blocks initially to ensure the flow of colours was correct.  All pieces were then carefully labelled and stored until the embroidery was completed.

The pattern is a Bronwyn Hayes (Red Brolly) design.

The quilt was machine pieced and hand quilted by me.

"The Buderim Craft Cottage held a workshop on the Disappearing Nine Patch.  This is my version".

'Owls in the Middle'

"Since learning to do 'quilt as you go', I have been addicted to making small 'I Spy' baby quilts for my great grandchildren and other friends' children.  It is great for using up all your scraps.  The projects were inspired by a fat quarter of owl fabric and the pattern depended on the size of the scrap fabric.  The quilting on this quilt is done on the machine."

'A Ribbon Pathway'

This quilt is from an Australian Patchwork and Quilting magazine inspired by a quilt made by Roslyn Cooper (originally from the book 'Rotary Roundup' by Judy Hopkins and Nancy Martin) for the 2000 Paralympics fundraiser.

Churn dash blocks set on point, all cotton fabrics (including some Liberty)

'Autumn Leaves'

"Autumn Leaves was adapted from a design by Jane Grove which appeared in a copy of the Machine Embroidery Magazine and made by a novice quilter!

It was machine pieced but I haven't quite got around to the quilting!"

'Pleasures Hidden'

"I loved these colours together.  I machine pieced them but the quilt was professionally quilted.  The quilt was made in 1998 but around that time I bought a king size bed and as this fits a queen size bed it has been in the cupboard and never used."

'Mummy Loves Pink'

"I make an 'I Spy' quilt for most of the babies in my family and it was whilst I was making for the newest member that I realised that I had made exactly the same quilt for her older brother just 3 years earlier.  Put the 'I Spy' fabric away and had to think of something else.  I found these teeny tiny little alphabet pictures that were not too American and got to work with pencil and paper.

Mum, Jodi, really is a very girlie girl and truly loves the colour pink, so as the new baby was going to be a girl then pink it is to be.

Hunted every quilt shop on the coast and there are fat quarters bought from all the shops to make this up.  I tried to enlarge the little alphabet pictures with borders and links of white to tone down all that bright pink!

The new baby will have it for her baptism soon.

The quilt is my design and I machine pieced and quilted it."

'Bush Tucker'

'Throw of the Dice'

 

"I wanted to try something different but also wanted to use just solid colour fabric.  Using a 'Drunkard's Path' template I cut several pieces of various colours and came up with squares and circles.  It looked pretty plain but I had seen quilting done in straight lines and very close together change the look of fabric.

I placed the one dot, dice-like squares on an angle on grey fabric and just started quilting using my domestic Janome and walking foot.  Using threads of various weight and type, polyester, cotton, silk and choosing colours that blended with the dice, the grey fabric took on a rainbow effect, front and back.  I have seen this type of quilting described as 'matchstick quilting."

"I saw this quilt on 'YouTube' from Missouri Star Quilts and as I had this lovely Jelly Roll thought it suited the title 'Summer'.  Machine pieced and quilted by me.

 "I made this quilt for my granddaughter's fourth birthday.  Most of the animals are from Kellie Wulfohn's 'Animal Alphabet'.  The remainder are from colouring books.  The quilt is hand and machine pieced and hand and machine quilted.

My husband requested a quilt for our bed.  I had made quilts for every member of the family (12) but never one for our bed until now.
I machine pieced the quilt and the machine quilting was done by Fiona, the Quilting Fairy.

'Jelly Roll Joy'
A quilt and cushion

"This quilt was made from 2 Jelly Rolls plus borders.  It was my first attempt to use Jelly Rolls.  We had a workshop at the Cottage and the Jelly Roll design was offered by the Sewing Basket.  The border fabric was from the Patchwork Angel.
I machine pieced the quilt and the Quilting Fairy did the quilting.
The cushion has a Sashiko embroidery center with borders to match my Jelly Roll quilt.  I hand embroidered and then machine quilted the cushion"

'Celtic Puzzles'

"The pink fabric I purchased many years ago and I have always wanted to do these designs.  So I put them together and I am happy with the results.
The blocks are micro stipple quilted with different designs on sashing and border.
The pattern is taken from a book written by Philomena Wiechel which was published in 1980.
Machine pieced and machine quilted on a domestic machine by me."

And we're off...Day One of our Biennale Quilt Show and Sale

9a.m. and the doors are thrown open.  A steady stream of early bird quilters and quilt lovers arrived to take in the beautiful quilts, welcomed by Ailsa and Marion.

The beautiful floral arrangements (there will be more pics as we go on) were supplied by Betty and her Mum Inge from their garden.

Before the day kicked off, Janice was spotted settling in and wearing this beautiful scarf and butterfly combo.

Story is, Janice seems to manage to loose her scarves, a little tip from a friend, snaffle yourself a hair clip, and clip the ends together.
